Skiing or Snow Boarding at Allenheads is great fun and perfect for everyone, especially families and beginners. As well as the good snow, the wide slopes, the beautiful scenery, the friendliness of our members and helpers, the easy road access and the nearby cafe and pub, we have a good supply of skis, boots and, increasingly, snowboards and boots which can be borrowed for your visit. We are a volunteer-run, local club. To ski with us you need to join and pay an annual membership fee. Once you are a member you can come along whenever you like.

We are situated 30 miles west of Durham and offer the longest lift served ski run in England. 2 permanent Doppelmayr button tows transport skiers to the summit at 2150 feet (650m) where you are greeted by a vast North facing bowl offering unlimited terrain with 6 or 7 regular routes and up to 34 routes that include several natural snow parks. The tows are run by volunteers and being a not for profit club Please note: sorry to say we don't hire or lessons, and the slopes are not suited to beginners. Lake District Ski Club
The Lake District Ski Club is situated near the top of one of England's highest peaks. You should be well-equipped for a mountain environment and fit enough to make the steep climb up carrying your gear. Founded in 1936, the Lake District Ski Club operates a 360-metre button tow on Raise, next to Helvellyn in the Lake District National Park. Raise's ungroomed slopes provide for a unique experience, with a total of sixty days of skiing enjoyed during particularly good seasons. While it is an austere environment, we have a very cosy heated members' hut!

Yad Moss
one of Northern England’s real-snow ski and snowboard areas Yad Moss is in the beautiful North Pennines National Landscape, 11 kilometres south of Alston. When conditions are good we enjoy over 4kms of varied intermediate skiing and plenty of ‘characterful’ off-piste. We are a Community Amateur Sports Club run by unpaid volunteers. We are open to all skiers, snowboarders and Telemarkers and also have Associate Memberships available to non-skiing adults or those currently unable to ski or board at Yad Moss.

When conditions are good we enjoy over 4kms of varied intermediate skiing and plenty of ‘characterful’ off-piste. We are a Community Amateur Sports Club run by unpaid volunteers. We are open to all skiers, snowboarders and Telemarkers and also have Associate Memberships available to non-skiing adults or those currently unable to ski or board at Yad Moss.

The Lecht is only an hour away and offers a safe environment for beginner to intermediate skiers. Cairngorm Mountain has great beginner runs when the wind is light. In the event of both resorts being closed due to bad weather, we have the backup of our brand new 60m proslope dry slope onsite at Loch Insh to fall back on. and often it gets covered with snow so is as good as anywhere without the crowds.

This allows endless possibilities of features you would find on a real mountain. It’s also super safe with an impact foam layer beneath the surface to cushion falls and landings.
